New StoryMap: Science in Action in the Northern Sagebrush Ecosystem

Learn more about our decision-support science for greater sage-grouse populations, at the northern margin of their range.

Over the past two years, CEG has partnered with a range of collaborators to advance scientific research aimed at restoring the greater sage-grouse population in Canada’s northern sagebrush ecosystem. We’re excited to introduce our work through an interactive ArcGIS StoryMap: Science in Action in the Northern Sagebrush Ecosystem.

This StoryMap showcases innovative tools and insights, including:

  • Advanced vegetation mapping

  • An interactive web viewer illustrating how sagebrush habitat may shift under various climate scenarios

  • A restoration prioritization tool to guide management decisions

  • Maps visualizing changes in sagebrush structural connectivity over time

  • Mortality risk maps for translocated sage-grouse

We also highlight field trials of small, low-tech rock dams designed to restore habitat, among other initiatives. At the heart of this work is a commitment to actionable science—research that directly informs and supports the recovery of sage-grouse in a rapidly changing landscape.
